Imagine being afraid for your life just for simply stepping outside your house without
your sunblock, protective garments, and umbrella. Until about twelve years old, I didn’t have
to imagine. It was my reality. I was born with a rare skin disease that combined with my asthma,
created a deadly allergy to the sun. Something that was taken advantage of all around me almost
killed me every day. All the windows in my elementary school had to have filters placed on
them, and multiple times at daycares when workers wouldn’t believe my allergy, I’d get an
ambulance to the hospital. The sun being something that brought the world life, only brought me
pain, but I still wished to be able to run with the other kids with no care in my mind basking in
the sun.
